The Fascinating Eye
The eye has fascinated human study from the beginning. An example of this
is the early anatomic drawings or Valverde de Amusco, published1560.
Valverde was born in the Kingdom of Leon in what is now Spain in about
the year 1525 and studied medicine in Padua and Rome.
In current times we have learned a great deal more about the eye and
ability to preserve and enhance vision. In modern medicine, the eye
was the first to receive a artificial implanted device, the intraocular
lens used in cataract surgery. Approximately 5 million are implanted
each year in the world. The eye was also the first target in the body
of the laser. Countless laser procedures, of various kinds, are done
each year.
We have included in this web area some of the general questions that
we are commonly asked and information about the eye.
