Cataract Surgery
If you have a patch on when you left the surgical center:
• Leave patch on as instructed - usually 5 to
6 hours.
• If you have double vision when you take the patch off
you can replace it.
• When patch is off you can follow the instructions below.
If you had no patch or when your patch is off:
Eye Drop Instructions
• Start your Tobradex eye drops labeled #1. Use
one drop 4 times a day.

• Keep using bottle #1 until it is gone. Dr. Brems will give
you a prescription for more Tobradex (Bottle #2).
• When bottle #2 is used up then start using bottle #3 - Econo
Pred Plus. Use it until it is all gone.
• You will be using eye drops for about 6 to 8 weeks.
General Instructions
• Your eye will be scratchy over night. Each day feeling better.
• It is very normal to feel scratchiness on the outside part
of the eye.
• Your vision will be blurry at first. Each day it will
improve.
• Your pupil will be dilated for longer than 24 from surgery.
This also makes the vision blurry.
• You can resume normal activities the follow day after surgery.
• Avoid firm rubbing or pressure on the eye for 3 days.
• If this is your second eye. Remember it may feel different
then the first.
• Generally your old glasses will not work for you. For
reading try "Reading Glasses" that you buy at the drug store.
If you thing you may have a problem
• Call the office (602-200-0770) - After
hours the answering service will contact the doctor.
• Continue using your drops.
